Street Photography Tips
#2 Tune in and seize the moment
The beauty of street photography is you never know what’s around the next corner. Scenes appear and disappear in a moment. It can be frustrating when you see a shot and before you can get your camera to your eye, the moment has gone. But the more you tune in and stay alert, the more your hit rate increases.
Sometimes it’s about anticipation, seeing the potential shot before it actually comes together. Take the shot of the two ladies with the complementing clothes - I’d just stepped out of a building and saw the woman facing come around the corner, as I turned right I then saw the other woman coming in the opposite direction - I quickly realised they were about to pass and I was there ready to get the the shot as they did.
There’s a famous quote by the golfer Gary Player, who said ‘It’s funny how the more I practice, the luckier I get’ - and so it is with street photography - the more you get out there and the more you tune in, the more successful you will be.
