Barry Island is part of the fabric of my childhood…of my whole life, in fact. There’s not a great deal there - a large, expansive beach, a few cafes and an amusement park with rides and attractions - there are no hotels or restaurants of note. When I was a child, I would spend many of the summer days on the beach with my family and, as I grew into my teens, I would hitchhike down from Cardiff with my mates. Barry Island is still a very popular day trip destination with many coaches arriving from the West Country and the Midlands on a daily basis. In 2019 I decided to revisit the resort and start an on-going photo essay. Here are the results of the first few days - I’ll be back in 2020 to add to the project.
